Evolving forward: Welcome to “Unbreakable Business”

Host Akua Konadu shares the story behind Unbreakable Business and her vision for the podcast’s next chapter, powered by HoneyBook.

The Independent Business podcast has been on the air for a year and a half, and it’s been such an incredible journey. We’ve celebrated 100 episodes, watched in awe as downloads surpassed 100,000, and climbed into the top 2% of podcasts worldwide.

At the heart of it all have been our amazing guests. Almost one hundred entrepreneurs, small business owners, and thought leaders have stepped behind the mic with host Akua Konadu to share their insights.. But none of this would have been possible without you–our listeners who’ve been with us every step of this remarkable journey.

And now, we’re ready to start a new chapter.

Today, we’re excited to announce that from here on out, the Independent Business Podcast will now be Unbreakable Business. The show where host Akua Konadu gets real about the ups and downs of building a sustainable and resilient independent business. You can expect inspirational guests, deeper dives into business strategy and mindset, and vulnerable conversations on what it really means to work for yourself.

We caught up with Akua to talk about this evolution, what listeners can expect, and what she’s looking forward to in this next chapter. She also gave us a sneak peek at some upcoming episodes.

Let’s take a closer look.

To kick things off, why did the Independent Business podcast evolve?

The Independent Business podcast has been a phenomenal journey with huge success. We hit over a hundred thousand downloads in less than a year and a half. We’re in the top 2% of podcasts globally. And we’ve had over a hundred episodes with  almost a hundred different business owners that have come into the show.

So many, through this podcast, have poured into our community and shared their expertise. Not just because they believe in this show, but because they believe in the community we’ve built. I’m so grateful for that.

That being said, we’ve listened to your feedback, both online and in person, on wanting a podcast that felt more real and relevant to you as an independent business owner. Just like your life and running your business isn’t perfectly scripted, you wanted this podcast to be raw and honest about what it truly takes to be an independent business owner.

As the host, and an independent business owner myself, this feedback really stuck with me—and I started thinking up concepts of where we could evolve the podcast.

I wanted to forget the highlight reels and lean more into the stories of entrepreneurship and the things that other people don’t see. I wanted to lean into people’s life experiences and how it helped them get to where they are. And on top of this, I wanted to give listeners actionable steps and takeaways that they could apply to their own businesses and lives.

So, we decided to make the shift—and Unbreakable Business was born.

Why is the podcast called Unbreakable Business?

I wanted to name this podcast “Unbreakable Business” because ultimately, that is the thesis and guiding light for each podcast episode. It’s the belief that our businesses are unbreakable no matter what life throws our way, so long as we lean into ourselves and our strengths.

And this mindset is not just supposed to be inspiring, it’s also so essential for building a business that stands the test of time. When you fully believe in your business’s resilience, you can weather any storm and build something that lasts.

What excites you the most about Unbreakable Business?

What truly gets me excited about Unbreakable Business is our commitment to sharing the real, untold stories behind successful businesses. As an unfiltered person myself, I believe in getting to the heart of who our guests are, not just what they do.

Here’s the thing—as business owners, we’re often told to separate our personal lives from our businesses, but that’s not really possible. Our life experiences shape how we run our companies and each episode of Unbreakable Business peels back the layers to reveal how our guests’ unique journeys influence their business decisions and leadership styles.

These aren’t just surface-level success stories. We’re diving deep into the mindset that makes or breaks a business, sharing both the triumphs and the challenges. Our guests aren’t here to just give you a checklist to follow—they’re opening up about their full journey, including the messy middle that often goes untold. That’s what makes these conversations so powerful. You get to see the complete picture: the strategies that worked, the lessons learned from failures, and the mindset shifts that made it all possible.

What do you want listeners to take away from the show?

Here’s what I really want for anyone who tunes into Unbreakable Business: I want you to finish each episode thinking “okay yes, I can totally do this” and actually know how to make it happen.

You know that feeling when someone just gets you? That’s what I want for our listeners. Because here’s the truth, you’ve got something special to bring to the table, and sometimes you just need a little push to help you see it. Whether you’re taking your first steps into business or you’ve been grinding for a decade, I want you to know that those dreams of yours are totally possible.

“But let’s be real—inspiration is great and all, but you can’t pay the bills with good vibes.”

But let’s be real—inspiration is great and all, but you can’t pay the bills with good vibes. That’s why every episode is packed with actual, practical advice you can use. Our guests aren’t just sharing their wins, they’re giving you their playbook: the real strategies that worked for them, and the stuff they wish they’d known sooner.

Bottom line? When you finish an episode, you should have big dreams and a game plan to make it happen. That’s what this is all about.

What are some upcoming episodes listeners can look forward to on the show?

We’re kicking off Unbreakable Business with two episodes I’m really excited about. Our first episode back features the team behind The Vendor Table podcast, and trust me—they hold nothing back. In the episode, they break down exactly how they grew their show to what it is today, sharing all the nitty-gritty details and behind-the-scenes insights that most people don’t ever discuss.

“These episodes really set the tone for what Unbreakable Business is all about—honest conversations that give you the complete picture, not just the highlight reel.”

Then we’ve got a fantastic conversation with Stu McLaren, who built a seven-figure business purely through memberships. What I love about this episode is how real he gets about balancing business growth with everyday life. He opens up about what success actually means beyond the numbers, shares his strategy for growing a strong membership base, and drops so many gems of wisdom throughout our chat.

These episodes really set the tone for what Unbreakable Business is all about—honest conversations that give you the complete picture, not just the highlight reel.

Lastly, what excites you most about the small and independent business communities?

It’s simple—they always do the work. They don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, but they believe in themselves. They believe in their dreams, and they’re pouring into that all of the time. I think it’s such a beautiful, beautiful thing, and something I’m so proud to be a part of.
